Beyond the Numbers
Life Out of Range (LOoR) is a regional non-profit supporting adults living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) through community, adventures, and emergency relief
Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic, costly, and often invisible disease—and the challenges go well beyond managing blood sugar. Adults with T1D can often experience feelings of isolation or helplessness, with limited opportunities to connect with others experiencing the same situation. Additionally, access to life-sustaining medication can fluctuate due to a myriad of factors and create substantial stresses and health crises.
Life Out of Range exists to build resilience and combat both the isolation and access challenges by building a regional community through accessible social activities and adventures for adults with T1D, as well as providing medical supply relief for individuals experiencing an emergency, whether natural or personal. Through quirky, accessible, and unique meetups, we can build a robust and resilient community which can support people socially and financially through the challenges of living with T1D.
Our Mission
Life Out of Range exists to build a welcoming, engaged, and resilient community for adults living with Type 1 diabetes through recurring activities, unique adventures, and emergency relief.
Our Vision
Imagine a community with a gathering to look forward to every month, a big adventure that shows what we can do together, and people who have your back when life takes you out of range. Here is how we will build it.
Our Three Pillars
Accessible, recurring, local gatherings inspired by the interests of our community. Are you interested in a local trivia night, or a bocce ball meet up? We will get it on the calendar.
These are local community-driven events that bring people together and build connections. We know an event worked when the people who met there are still in touch long afterward.
Activities
One or two times a year, we invite you to take a step outside of your comfort zone and test the limits of where you can take your glucometer.
These are meant to be ambitious, but open to everyone interested in joining, and we are always interested in hearing what challenges you are intrigued by. Have you always been curious about a relay race, or kayaking on the Potomac? LOoR would love to make that a reality.
Adventures
There are times when things out of our control make the daily challenge of T1D unsustainable. LOoR seeks to help build a resilient community to make things just a little more manageable.
LOoR has a program to provide medical supply emergency relief through small microgrants available to those experiencing a personal or natural emergency.
